7-Day Burkina Faso Travel Itinerary

Burkina Faso is a naturally unique place to visit in West Africa. The country offers vibrant markets, earthen architecture, traditional music and stunning natural landscapes. A seven-day itinerary would provide ample time to explore this beautiful country. However, travellers should review the latest official travel advisories and confirm current local conditions. 

Day 1: Arrive in Ouagadougou

  • Buses: You can use intercity coaches from Ouagadougou to Bobo-Dioulasso for a more affordable option and better availability.
  • Private Transfer: Hire a private transfer for a more relaxed and comfortable journey, especially if you’re carrying heavy luggage.

Day 5: Explore the Historic Bobo-Dioulasso

Snoufo Cultural Centre

  • Begin your fifth day of the trip exploring Sya, the city’s historic neighbourhood.
  • See the popular Grand Mosque of Bobo-Dioulasso from the designated permitted areas.
  • Explore the Sénoufo Cultural Centre to learn about Sénoufo traditions, history and cultural objects. 
  • Visit the Bolomakoté, known as Bobo-Dioulasso’s musicians’ quarter for local music, craft workshops and traditional instrument makers.
  • Visit the Grand Marché de Bobo-Dioulasso for fabrics, local crafts, food and everyday goods. 
  • Arrange any evening music performance through your hotel, if available, and return to your room early for the next day’s adventure.

Day 6: Banfora and Its Natural Landscapes

  • Leave for Banfora early in a private car.
  • Visit the Karfiguéla Waterfalls to spend some time amid nature.
  • Head to the Domes of Fabédougou, a group of naturally formed sandstone formations.

Things to keep in mind:

  • Wear sturdy and comfortable shoes for exploring Karfiguéla Waterfalls, as the paths around the waterfall can be slippery and rocky,

Day 7: Return to Ouagadougou and Depart

  • Head to the airport for your onward journey.
